In earlier posts (Part 1, Part 2, Part 3), we detailed the steps we took moving the little 16’ yurt from the original deck, which was on the verge of collapse, to its own platform. Thank the Lord, that effort was completed successfully!

Porch supports.

So now we are starting to build a small porch to allow easy access in and out. We are still not decided what to do with the other door opening where we have to create a door, as the yurt only came with one as it connected to a larger yurt.

In any case, the first step was install the two supports for the porch. The holes were dug down to the frost line, which here is about 18” deep. Next, we will install the support joists which will tie into the two poles under the yurt itself. Then, cross members will be installed with joist hangers to support the floor boards, likely 2x6 treated boards.

Porch floor done.

So, after hanging the crossmembers, it didn’t take long to screw down the floor boards and trim all the ends the same length. And that completed the porch, with a board for a railing. Haven’t decided if I will do fancy steps, or just paving tiles. Anyway, have a great day, and we praise the Lord Jesus for His guidance in all things!

Porch ramps.

UPDATE: We decided to use the ramp from the old yurt deck, as it seemed to be in pretty good shape. We cut two 6-foot sections from it, and will use one piece on each side. Praise God for providing!

For the final piece to this endeavor, look at the old deck post.
