We continue on the Front Porch by making plates of doubled 2x6 boards, and screwing them down. We also added straps over each one to help against strong winds.

Plates.

After the plates are installed, we construct the end rafters the same way, by doubled 2x6 boards. All the boards we are using are treated lumber for longevity against the elements.

End Rafters.

For all rafters, we first made a template to ensure the profile was at the right slope and height for the existing roofline. After that, it was a simple matter to screw down all the pre-cut rafters. Took no time at all!

All Rafters in Place.

So the next step is fitting the stringers to the rafters. The tin will be screwed to these with rubber-washered roofing screws.

Tin Provides Shade.

The tin used is 3’x12’ ribbed 19-gauge sheets, the same as the back porch walls and several outbuildings. Nice, easy stuff to work with, and goes up fast!

Next, we started on the deck itself, made with treated 2x6 lumber. Except for the ends, where the board is fitted around the post uprights, construction is simply a matter of spacing about 1/4” and screwing down each piece. In this last picture, the left half is completed, whereas the right is just laid in place, as we ran out of screws! Road trip!

Deck Work in Progress.

Have a great day in the Lord Jesus, and stay safe!

By the way, the snowy header picture is from earlier this year (March).

UPDATE: We have finished the porch! Rather than create a new post, we will update this posting with one final image showing the completed porch.
