After getting things done with the new tractor, I found some things I wanted to improve. I wanted a holder for my cellphone as sitting on it was not a good idea. So I designed a simple holder that I mounted next to the PTO lever and cup holder. It allows easy access and doesn’t risk breaking the screen.

During the design phase, I realized water needed a ready path for draining. That was a simple matter of making slots in the bottom for that purpose. The next need was some storage space for tow/recovery straps, work gloves, etc. I found some used surplus ammunition boxes at ArmySurplusWarehouse.com that had good seals in the lids to prevent water ingress which would fit my purpose nicely.

But wait! Those boxes look nasty and rusted! I need to paint them to match the tractor, and cover the rustiness. The interior of the boxes were in great shape, and I knew the seals were good, as when I opened them, each hissed from pressure release.1 Having the foresight to acquire some International Harvester Red spray paint from Tractor Supply, I proceded to apply a liberal amount to each box after wire-brushing them to remove loose rust and dirt.

After painting, they look much nicer; ready to mount on the tractor fenders. I had intended to mount them on the inside of the fenders, but found they inteferred with critical controls. That was not good, so on top they go!

Mounting locations.

A couple of 7 mm bolts with flat and lock washers for each box allowed them to be securely held in place, ready to receive the necessary towing tools.

The recovery/tow straps came in nice bags, handy for keeping them neat in a vehicle.

So, if I need to help ourselves, or someone in our community, become unstuck, I have the helping tools to do so! So, now its time to quit playing with the computer, and get back to work! Have a great day, and God Bless!

PS: Here is an image taken this morning (11 August) of the beautiful scenery God has given us to enjoy!
