Hey, all! Today is the first day of Spring, 20 March 2020. God is giving us a wonderful balmy day, slight breeze with a temperature of around 67 degrees Fahrenheit (19.4 degrees Celsius). The sun is deliciously warm and the wind chill is much less than the past few days!

A perfect day to start a new batch of Moringa Olifera sprouts for planting this Summer. We are planning on a modest start of around forty plants to begin; then, after they are larger and planted in the ground, we will most likely start another bunch.

Iris Just Waiting for Right Moment to Bloom

These Iris shoots are already “going great guns” as the saying goes. As the sun is still further south than the edge of the house, they are still in the shade all day, and will be for another month perhaps.

I hope the weather is now starting to stay on the right side of cold and the soil will be warming up as the days go on toward Summer. So it seemed the perfect day to plant this year’s crop of Moringas.

If you have read earlier posts, you know we did an experiment last year with growing them in the late fall in the greenhouse. That trial was a rousing success, so now we are prepared to expand our operation to significant amounts.

Styrofoam Cups Make great Starter Pots

So today I planted the seeds in these small coffee cups, which seemed to work so well for the first batch back in September of last year. I again planted them using normal potting soil, as the Moringas don’t like heavy compacted soils, and the potting soil resists too much compacting.

40 Little Seeds

I watered them with about 1/4th cup of water for the initial wetting. That way the soil will supply the moisture and the sun will supply the heat inside the greenhouse. Nights are still a bit cool for having sprouts outside, and the greenhouse will prevent the wind from stealing the moisture or heat. They should sprout in around two weeks, so keep an eye on this website to see running updates on our progress. Have a great day in the Lord Jesus Christ!

Jade Tree

And, remember to wash your hands often, stay away from large groups, or folks with flu-like symptoms. Keep alcohol soaked wipes handy or the equivalent, for sanitizing your hands and other surfaces that are touched frequently. The Gas Pump Handle is something everyone touches and is a concentrated source of bacteria and germs. So, what we do is use a disposable rubber glove for that hand, then when finished pumping gas, remove the glove by peeling it off and disposing in the trash can before reentering the vehicle. Just a small thing like that can perhaps limit the spread of nasties! But, until this panic buying that is currently occurring in most businesses slows down, things will seem a bit strange.

Mystery Plant

Trusting in the Lord is a wall against panic and will go a long way toward bringing things closer to normalcy. God Bless you and your families, and wash your hands often!

Some Sort of Moss Perhaps

More small plants that are doing well.

Many of the above pictures are of plants bought after a truck had overturned, spilling its load, and the owners decided to sell them as most of the plants survived the accident. So the identification of some of these is anyone’s guess, and as we are not conversant on various shrubs, we are also guessing. But, they now have a chance to grow, so that is a good thing.

God Bless you and your family, and have a great day!
