Yay, the weather is now springlike! That means the pellet project mentioned here is pretty much completed.

Stove in place.

We have installed the stove after boring holes in the wall for the exhaust and fresh air intake. The stove has a 3” outlet, but we are over 7400’ in altitude, so we needed a 4” stove pipe. Giving the spacing necessary from combustible materials, we bored a 7” hole for the wall thimble. Using a 3” to 4” adapter fits nicely to the stovepipe 4” diameter sections.

Stove rear connections.

Shown above from the stove rear to the 45 degree bend, it then exits the wall through the thimble. The other flexible pipe shown is the fresh air intake, which is 2” diameter. This is a must-have as the stove uses air, and if the home is relatively tight, it would quickly exhaust the oxygen in the room. The electrical outlet in the corner is for the backup electrical 120 VAC input. That portion is still to be built, and will consist of solar panels, charge controller, battery and inverter.

Exterior chimney.

The chimney shown here is not complete, as it needs an additional 2’ of stovepipe to draw properly. The tee at the bottom is for clean-out of ash buildup that may occur. Also, the top horizontal section may require cleaning, as any horizontal section is prone to ash deposits.

The yellow wire is the exterior side from the electrical outlet mentioned above, and will connect to an 12 VDC to 120 VAC inverter.. Barely seen beyond the stovepipe is the fresh air intake, covered by a screen and wind baffle. The stovepipe bend at the top is also screened (for bird ingress denial) and bends downward to prevent rain and snow entry. All the stovepipe connections are sealed with hi-temp RTV to block vapors.

So, that’s the current state of this project. There may be updates for the remainder of the project as it progresses. Have a great day, and may God Bless you and yours.
