It has been a month now since we planted the Moringa Oleifera seeds, and as can be seen, they are doing great! Praise the Lord for stirring them to life.

Anemic Sprout

However, not all sprouts are created equal. For example, the above sprout has always been pale and lackluster compared to the other sprouts. I don’t know the reason for it, but it has now started to droop so it has been eliminated from the pool of healthy sprouts.

Apache Sugar Cane

Other seedlings we planted are doing well also, as shown in the above photo. The Apache Sugar Cane is now about 4 inches high and growing very fast.

Bee Balm or Clover

We are not sure at this point if this is Bee Balm or Clover. We will have to wait and see how it grows and how the leaves form. So now it is a bit of a mystery, but that’s okay. It is doing well and will be given the opportunity to ‘show it’s stuff.’

The garden needs to be tilled and many bags of topsoil added to reduce the compaction of the soil as Moringa trees don’t like heavy soils. In this area of the Southwest, the soil is very sandy and has a lot of clay mixed in. Additionally, there is a layer of caliche about three to five feet down which creates a bit of a problem for drainage.

Tiller Broken

Unfortunately, as the above picture shows, the tiller is non-functional. The motor seems to be DOA and is not providing spark. And, it is a bit old. The sun’s UV rays have eaten the plastic parts and they are falling off in pieces.

New Motor

So we acquired a replacement motor to install on the tiller frame. As things go, during the attempt to swap out pulleys from the old motor shaft to the new, the pulley decided to fail. It was seized so tight to the shaft even a pulley puller only succeeded in snapping off a piece.

Failed Pulley

So now we are waiting for the arrival of a new pulley before we can reassemble the tiller and get to tilling the garden.

The Lord God has a reason for everything, so we are waiting on the Lord. Keep safe if you go out in public, and remember, WEAR A MASK AND GLOVES! Don’t take chances as your life may depend on it! Also, be aware of what you touch, even with gloves!
